TAM Battery is the first comprehensive computer-assisted battery of neuropsychological tests that is indigneously developed for Indians and is available in multiple Indian languages for the assessment of cognitive function in adults, above 18 years of age. It can be administered in person or vis tele-evaluation. It has 16 tests out of which nine are newly developed and seven are tests available on the public domain that have been translated and adapted including a cognitive screening module.

The total time for administration of the whole battery is 2 hours and 30 minutes for a well-motivated cognitively normal individual. Only qualified healthcare professionals with training in the field of cognition and its assessments can administer the test battery and interpret its report. The TAM Battery is contained within a web-application that is a neuropsychological patient management system which allows the clinician/researcher to maintain and store patient records, generate reports and retest patients if required. It is user-friendly and aims to make neuropsychological assessment a paper-free process with zero-prep time for busy clinicians.

The TAM Battery was conceived and developed as an Android OS based application which was later adapted into a web-based application by Dr. Porrselvi A.P., under the supervision of Dr. V. Shankar, Professor and Head of the Department of Neurology, as a part of her doctoral research titled, " Development of a computer assisted cognitive test battery for assessment of cognitive function in the Tamil speaking elderly population" at Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research, Chennai.

Some Unique Features of TAM Battery


First comprehensive Cognitive Test Battery developed in India that integrates Technology and makes Administration, Scoring and Reporting of Neuropsychological Assessment Computer- Assisted.


Complete Patient Management System. Zero prep time for testing. No paper trail. Digital semi-automated scoring and reports generation. Allows patient re-testing and access to previous test reports.


Includes newly developed tests for ensuring comprehensive cognitive profiling. Also includes a Quick Screen Module, Language Module, Questionnaires and checklists for cognitive symptoms, medical history and mood disorders.


Brief yet comprehensive. The tests can be used as stand alone measures. Provides flexibility to be used alongside other measures or for brief cognitive evaluations of specific cognitive domains depending on sensory, physical, education requirements or referral questions.


Uses a novel estimate of pre-morbid cognitive functioning as a marker in addition to the traditional socio-demographics like age and education for normative comparison. Useful predictor of test performance in heterogenous populations.


First Cognitive Assessment Tool developed in Tamil language. Allows for test translation to make equivalent test batteries in any Indian language as required in accordance with the International Test Commission's Guidelines. This allows for efficient cross-cultural research.
